GBBO final: ‘That’s inedible!’ Crystelle dashes hopes of winning with RAW focaccia as viewers claim she could’ve beat Giuseppe if it weren’t for the ‘massive gaffe’
Crystelle dashed her hopes of winning The Great British Bake Off during Tuesday night’s final after serving up focaccia that was still raw.
The baker, 26, was hoping to impress judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith with the bread flavored with honey and garlic, but instead was told it was ‘inedible’.
Viewers were gutted for the contestant after the gaffe, with some even claiming she could have beat winner Giuseppe it if had been cooked properly.
Oh dear: Crystelle dashed her hopes of winning The Great British Bake Off during Tuesday night’s final after serving up focaccia that was still raw
‘Right, focaccia,’ Paul commented as the finalist presented her dish.
She explained: ‘It’s a za’atar. garlic and honey focaccia.’
After tasting the bake, Prue awkwardly commented: ‘Uh, this is not recognisable as focaccia.’
‘That’s raw dough,’ Paul added. ‘What have you done? I mean that is actually raw… has it been in the oven?’

‘Yeah. I don’t know what happened, that’s bizarre.’
Paul went on: ‘It’s got no rise on it at all. That’s inedible that one.’
Observing the rest of the dish, Prue stated: ‘That’s a pity.’
‘I’ve never seen anything like it,’ Paul remarked.
Reaction: ‘That’s raw dough,’ Paul (pictured) said. ‘What have you done? I mean that is actually raw… has it been in the oven?’
A disappointed Crystelle responded: ‘I’m really sorry, I don’t know what happened, that’s bizarre.’
Paul concluded: ‘But overall, I think your flavors and what you did try was very good.’
Viewers were quick to take to Twitter to express their sympathy after the error, while some said she would have won if it hadn’t been raw.
One wrote: ‘Think it was Crystelle all the way until her foccacia was raw. Which was worse than his Belgian Buns being a bit over cooked. They were very close though!’
Incredible: The finalists all created stunning Showstoppers for the final, with Crystelle opting for a Tea Party theme
Another said: ‘Uh oh…. Crystelle’s foccacia is raw… that may have cost her dearly;, while someone else said: ‘I think crystelle might have pipped it if the foccacia came out well!’
A fourth commented: ‘I think Crystelle could’ve won it if weren’t for the uncooked foccacia!’
A fifth added: ‘We need a true crime podcast about what tf happened to crystelle’s foccacia.’
Runner up: Despite the gaffe with her bread Crystelle said she was happy she had made it to the final
However Crystelle did win her first ever technical challenge for her Belgian buns, exclaiming: ‘It only took me 10 weeks.’
Giuseppe Dell’Anno, 45, triumphed over fellow contestants Crystelle and Chigs Parmar, 40, in arguably the closest ever final of the Channel 4 show tonight.
The chief engineer, who now lives in Bristol, became the first Italian winner after impressing the judges with his consistency and professionalism throughout the competition.
After excelling in last week’s semi-final – winning a Hollywood handshake for his signature bake – Dell’Anno continued in the same fashion.

His take on the classic carrot cake with a fig and walnut jam was commended for it’s ‘delicious flavour’, despite it being warm when he put it together.
He then placed last in the technical challenge after ‘massively’ over-baking his Belgian buns.
‘The icing is perfect, the shape is lovely, everything except leaving them in the oven too long,’ said Leith. ‘That’s such a pity because this is the final.’ ‘They would have been number one, bar for the colour,’ said Hollywood.
However, Dell’Anno soon impressed once again with his Mad Hatter’s Tea Party showstopper – which used both sweet and savoury treats, while showcasing a minimum of four baking disciplines.
Having their say: One wrote: ‘Think it was Crystelle all the way until her foccacia was raw. Which was worse than his Belgian Buns being a bit over cooked. They were very close though!’
The amateur baker opted for a giant tear-and-share brioche mushroom, with mango and passion fruit ‘drink me’ panna cottas, heart-shaped orange and fig muffins, and an asparagus and pea filled choux caterpillar.
He faced a major setback after discovering his oven had not been closed properly and not preheated.
But despite this and his complicated design, his efforts were well received, with the panna cotta described as ‘stunning’ by Hollywood, and ‘bliss’ by Leith.
‘That is the most perfect texture for a panna cotta… I’m taking it away with me,’ added Leith, who took an extra helping.
After being crowned the winner, Dell’Anno, who is fluent in English, French and Italian, said: ‘I feel it’s been a great year for Italy.
‘I truly can’t believe it or take it in, this has made me so incredibly happy to be a Britalian. Dell’Anno is my surname which translates in English to ‘of the year’ – and I feel this has certainly been my year.’
