I’m A Celeb’s Adam Woodyatt fights back tears as he talks about ‘new start’ amid divorce

Adam Woodyatt fought back the tears as he was evicted from the I’m A Celebrity… camp last night and spoke about a “new start”.

Last night’s episode saw a double eviction from the camp with EastEnders actor Adam and Olympic diver Matty Lee making an exit from the show.

The actor spoke about having “a lot going on” as he sat down with Ant and Dec for his exit from the show.

Adam, 53, had been married to wife Beverley Sharp since 1998 and the pair have two grown up children, Jessica and Sam, but they decided to split back in summer 2019.

The actor, who’s best known for his role as Ian Beale in the BBC soap, was asked by Ant and Dec if he felt his time in the castle had turned his life around and got emotional while talking about his time on the show.

He replied: “A bit. I looked at it as…” before pausing and trying not to tear up. He stopped for a moment and then added: “Ooh you got me you bugger”.

"I'd looked at it as if it was going to be a new start. There's a lot of stuff still going on. Mentally, I've sorted myself out. My head was in the right place going in there which is why I've loved it so much."

Adam admitted he was nervous about going on the show as he was usually used to playing a character and reading off scripts, whereas in the castle it was just him as himself.

"Yeah [I was nervous] because I haven't got a script. I've spent 36 years with a script," he said, "I'm not like Simon. He's just naturally funny, I need somebody to play off which was Simon. We kind of knew each other from before and it helped – but everyone has been amazing."

Adam also added how he chose to do a lot of chores in the castle to keep himself busy, despite describing himself as having a “lazy persona”.

"Normally, I'm lazy," he said, "If I can sit there on my phone and do nothing for three hours, I will take that option, but in there, there's no other distractions so you've got to keep your mind active, so I did everything."

However, Adam said he deliberately stayed away from the cooking so he couldn’t get involved in the rows and drama between the likes of Naughty Boy and Kadeena Cox over the cooking.

The final of I’m A Celebrity 2021 is due to take place on Sunday 12th December at 9pm, with Frankie Bridge, David Ginola, Danny Miller and Simon Gregson.
