Jennifer Grey says her late co-star Patrick Swayze initially ‘resisted’ saying the now-iconic line in their 1987 hit film Dirty Dancing
Patrick Swayze uttered the iconic line ‘Nobody puts Baby in a corner,’ in the 1987 film Dirty Dancing.
And his co-star Jennifer Grey revealed that Patrick almost didn’t want to utter the line, she wrote in her new memoir Out of the Corner.
‘Patrick had similar issues with his dialogue, and strenuously resisted saying the now-famous line, “Nobody puts Baby in a corner,”‘ she recalled, via The Insider.

The actress, 62, said that during pre-production ‘the script was not exactly ready to go.’
Jennifer added that Patrick had issues with the script as well, noting that he ‘struggled’ with it.
She wrote that he had ‘similar issues with his dialogue,’ revealing that he ‘strenuously resisted saying the now-famous line, “Nobody puts baby in a corner.”‘
The now iconic scene features Jennifer’s character Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman right before her and Patrick’s character Johnny Castle’s dance routine.

Patrick, who passed away in 2009 at age 57 from pancreatic cancer, had previously noted in his memoir The Time of My Life that he wasn’t really feeling that particular line either.
‘I could hardly bring myself to say: “Nobody puts Baby in a corner.” It sounded so corny. But seeing the finished film, I had to admit it worked.’
In her memoir, Jennifer also revealed that other dialogue from the film ‘didn’t exactly roll off the tongue,’ per the outlet.

She and Patrick worked with director Emile Ardolino, whom she called an ‘ally’ to make the script sound ‘more natural.’
Each night the cast received a revised version of the script.
Dirty Dancing was released in 1987 and became a worldwide global hit, beloved by the audiences still.
