‘Nothing will get you the part except for being right’: Lily Rose Depp slams ‘nepo baby’ claims but admits having famous parents helped ‘get her foot in the door’ with acting – as she poses for a striking ELLE shoot
Lily Rose Depp has addressed nepotism claims in a candid new interview with Elle in which she also discussed the challenges of growing up in the spotlight.
The daughter of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis, 23, slammed the idea that she has landed roles due to family connections, saying: ‘Nothing is going to get you the part except for being right for the part’.
However the model – who is set to star in HBO’s upcoming series The Idol – did admit that who she is helped her ‘get her foot in the door’ but that she still has to work hard.

Speaking in the publication’s December issue where she wowed in a series of stylish looks, she said: ‘The internet seems to care a lot about that kind of stuff.
‘People are going to have preconceived ideas about you or how you got there, and I can definitely say that nothing is going to get you the part except for being right for the part.
‘The internet cares a lot more about who your family is than the people who are casting you in things. Maybe you get your foot in the door, but you still just have your foot in the door. There’s a lot of work that comes after that.’

On grappling with fame her whole life she added ‘Growing up my parents protected my brother [Jack] and me from it as much as possible.
‘I know my childhood didn’t look like everybody’s childhood, and it’s a very particular thing to deal with, but it’s also the only thing that I know.’…
Though confronting fame as an adult has been ‘a weird thing to navigate,’ she admitted: ‘It’s different experiencing it firsthand rather than by proxy. I guess it’s something that I’ve had to make my own way with.’

Elsewhere she touched on how she’s chosen to avoid commenting on the recent headlines about her famous father.
Johnny had a high-profile defamation case this summer where he sued former partner Amber Heard for a 2018 op-ed piece in which she said she was a victim of domestic violence but didn’t explicitly name him.

Lily said: ‘When it’s something that’s so private and so personal that all of a sudden becomes not so personal…I feel really entitled to my secret garden of thoughts.
‘I also think that I’m not here to answer for anybody, and I feel like for a lot of my career, people have really wanted to define me by the men in my life, whether that’s my family members or my boyfriends, whatever.
‘And I’m really ready to be defined for the things that I put out there.’

The star has been busy working on The Idol, and left little the imagination as she showed off her sexy dance moves in a barely-there red top and black leather shorts in the racy new trailer for the show, released earlier this month.
Depp portrays an up-and-coming pop star, named Jocelyn, in the series.
Set against the backdrop of the music industry, The Idol centers on a self-help guru and leader of a modern-day cult, who develops a complicated relationship with an up-and-coming pop idol.

There’s also a long list of actors and actresses with recurring roles that includes the late Anne Heche.
After original director Amy Seimetz left the project, with multiple episodes already been shot, due to a change in creative direction, Levinson took over and the show went through a complete reshoot that was completed in July.
The Idol is now scheduled to make its premiere on HBO in November.

Depp began her acting career with a cameo role in the horror-comedy film Tusk (2014), and has since gone on to start making a name for herself in the period drama The Dancer (2016) and the French-Belgian drama film Planetarium (2016), alongside Natalie Portman.
Last year, she stepped up her output, starring in no less than four films: Crisis, Voyager, Silent Night and Wolf.
Depp is set to reprise her Tusk and Yoga Hosers role in Moose Jaws, and she also has two upcoming movie projects including French sci-fi drama The Empire and A24’s erotic drama The Governesses.
