Little House on the Prairie star Hersha Parady has passed away following a brain tumor battle. 

The TV actress – who played Walnut Grove schoolteacher Alice Garvey – was 78. 

She died on Wednesday at her son Jonathan Peverall’s home in Norfolk, Virginia. Peverall confirmed the sad news to The Hollywood Reporter. 

The retired star had been battling a brain tumor for some time, and there had been a GoFundMe account set up to help deal with medical expenses.

Peverall revealed that his mother had been dealing with meningioma in a message that was posted on the account earlier this year.

he also wrote that he had moved his mother from her home in the Los Angeles area to his residence in Virginia after her condition had taken a turn for the worse.

He subsequently shared an update on his mother’s health in late July, in which he wrote that she had undergone a ‘successful’ surgery to mitigate the effects of her tumor.

However, the performer developed pneumonia during her period of recovery and was forced to return to hospital, where she was placed in the ICU and remained on a ventilator after losing consciousness.

Parady, whose birth name was Betty Sandhoff, was born on May 25, 1945 in Berea, Ohio.

The actress began her career by appearing in local theater productions before she moved to Los Angeles in the early 1970s to pursue her professional ambitions.

The performer began her television career during an episode of Bearcats! that aired in 1971, and she followed it up with guest appearances on programs including The Waltons and Mannix.

The actress subsequently auditioned for the role of Caroline Ingalls on Little House On The Prairie, although the part was ultimately given to Karen Grassle.

Parady went on to portray Eliza Anne Ingalls in an episode of the western-drama series show that aired in 1976.
