Love Island’s Maura Higgins celebrates first Valentine’s Day with boyfriend Chris Taylor in style as he surprises her with a candlelit dinner in an igloo

Love Island’s Maura Higgins and Chris Taylor pulled out all the stops as they marked their first Valentine’s Day as a couple.

The loved-up couple celebrated the romantic holiday in style as Chris, 30, surprised his new girlfriend Maura with a candlelit dinner in an igloo their back garden.

The Irish beauty, 30, appeared to be delighted as her boyfriend documented her reaction to the stunning set-up on Instagram on Sunday night.

The igloo was decorated with fairy lights and elaborate pink and red balloons as a table for two was laid inside. 

The elaborate table setting was complete with candlesticks, roses and a glowing neon pink love heart – a nod to the signage in the Love Island villa where they met.

In a sweet video, Chris filmed Maura’s reaction to his surprise as she stood in front of the back door in a tight black dress, holding a glass of red wine.

Rose petals lay scattered on the floor as the curtains slowly opened to reveal the igloo in the garden.

The reality star put her hand to her mouth in shock and exclaimed: ‘Are you joking!’, as she stepped out into the garden as Celine Dion’s My Heart Will Go On played in the background. 

Another video on Maura’s Instagram Story documented the inside of the igloo which showed the table strewn flowers, chocolate love hearts as well as a bottle of wine and a bottle of champagne.

Maura also shared a close up of her date night outfit in a mirror video filmed in the bathroom.

She struck a confident pose, showing off the black bandeau mini-dress with cut-outs around the midriff, which complimented her toned physique.

The couple went public with their romance in November during a romantic birthday getaway to Dubai.

The pair discussed their unexpected relationship in a new joint candid interview with the The Sun’s Fabulous magazine.

Talking about their relationship, Maura and Chris praised their ‘great sexual chemistry’ and admitted that they never predicted their romance happening.

The couple, who were best friends prior to being a couple, revealed that they realised there was a spark in November, eight months after her split from ex Curtis Pritchard.

The couple shared that Chris made the first move after he kissed Maura and he was also the first to drop the love bomb.

Maura told the publication that they would ‘always cuddle’ as friends as they formerly shared the same bed on Love Island so it ‘wasn’t weird.’

She said: ‘We would have a cuddle on the couch or lie in bed watching movies or whatever, and then exactly what he said, our faces were very, very close together. Chris kissed me and I kissed him back.’

Discussing their ‘great’ sexual chemistry and sex life, Maura admitted that she was worried it would be ‘quite awkward’ after being friends for so long but that they haven’t ‘really struggled’ with that at all.

Admitting that they are both on the same ‘wave length’, Chris cheekily revealed: ‘We have great sex, and lots of it!’ 

Maura also shared that she finds Chris’ tattoos ‘sexy’ while he sweetly revealed that the Irish beauty is at her ‘sexiest’ when she’s got ‘no make-up, no bra and scruffs on.’  

Also during the interview, Maura admitted that she ‘wasn’t interested like that’ initially with Chris after they met on the 2019 series of Love Island, where she left the villa with ex-boyfriend Curtis, 25, and Chris was coupled up with ex Harley Brash.

The couple recalled how all their friends kept commenting on their ‘chemistry’ with the duo insisting they were ‘just friends’.

While Maura and Chris both worried about ruining their friendship before becoming romantic, joking that they went ‘straight in’ with ‘no messing’. 

Talking about how Chris is ‘different’ to her past relationships, Maura said: ‘This is different. We never thought we’d be in a relationship together. I’ve had a lot of male friends in my life but nothing has ever happened before.’ 

The couple said that things have progressed quicker than usual due to their friendship and lockdown, adding that they are taking their future ‘one step at a time’.

The Love Island also hinted at his feelings toward her new romance with her best friend Chris, who was their co-star on the 2019 series of the show.

Curtis spoke candidly on the subject of his ex to love gurus Anna Williamson and  Paul Carrick Brunson, after sharing a kiss with Kesia.

Curtis and Maura dated for nine months after meeting on the show but went their separate ways in March last year.

Maura announced her romance with Chris last November, and reflecting on the relationship, Curtis said: ‘Then with Maura it started to go downhill a little bit.

Dating expert Anna Williamson told Curtis: ‘This baggage you’re carrying, we can see how hurt you have been.’
