When making an appearance on ‘Live with Kelly and Ryan’, the star and creator of ‘After Life’ also talks about how he and his family came to adopt rescue cat named Pickle.
AceShowbiz -Funnyman Ricky Gervais has turned into a real homebody thanks to the coronavirus crisis. The creator and star of Netflix hit “After Life” has completed production on the show’s third season and is amid his “SuperNature” live comedy tour in the United Kingdom.
The pandemic has forced Ricky to postpone a string of U.S. stand-up shows he was due to headline this month (October 2021) – and he doesn’t seem to mind at all. “There’s something about staying in and doing nothing that I got used to [during the lockdowns],” he quips on “Live with Kelly and Ryan”.
“I quite like that now. It’s such a privilege playing arenas to thousands of people around the world, right, but do you ever get the feeling you just want to go, ‘Argh, I don’t want to do anything ever again?’ Once a day I think that. I don’t want to do anything ever again. Just sit here…”
He’s particularly enjoying downtime with Pickle, his rescue cat, who has become quite the social media star.
“We lost our lovely cat of 16 years, Ollie, in March ’20 and [partner] Jane said, ‘Oh we could foster….’ And so we found this place that saved cats and Pickle was rescued from a really bad situation, with 16 other cats and a dog, and she had to fend for herself,” he shares.
Pickle was duly delivered to Ricky and Jane’s London pad. “She sort of hid behind the settee [couch] for, like, a day and we coaxed her out and she sat on my lap and looked at me,” he adds.
“And we went, ‘We’re keeping her, we’re keeping her.’ How could you send it back? How could you save something and then give it away again? Honestly we’ve lucked out again. She is the most beautiful affectionate [cat]. I mean all animals are perfect but she’s absolutely beautiful.”
