Rod Stewart was cut off by The One Show host Jermaine Jenas after he made an awkward ‘substance use’ comment on Tuesday’s show.

The singing icon, 76, made the remark as he was interviewed alongside Rosamund Pike by Jermaine, 38 and stand-in host Lauren Laverne, 43,  

Jermaine said: ‘Rod, Rosamund, I imagine you both enjoy a bit of time on the dance floor yourselves.

‘Rod, what is the longest you reckon you’ve been out on the dance floor?’

A smiling Rod responded: ‘Erm, well it depends what substances I took before.’

After a brief silence and Rosamund looking perplexed,Jermaine called out: ‘Let’s keep it clean, Rod, let’s keep it clean.’

Rod added: ‘Three hours, three and a half hours. On and off.’     

Rod appeared on the BBC One show to discuss his recently released 31st studio album titled The Tears Of Hercules.

The music icon has said his latest album was born out of lockdown, noting that it’s ‘the best album he’s made in a long time.’   

He also revealed that one of the songs on the new album, Touchline, was dedicated to his father, who he says taught him and his brothers to love football.

Taking to his Instagram account he said: ‘Ladies & Gentlemen I bring you The Tears of Hercules.

The crooner also disclosed that two tracks on the album – I Can’t Imagine and Precious Memories – are about his wife Penny Lancaster, 50, who he has been happily married to since 2006. 

Rod and Penny share sons Alastair, 15, and Aiden, 10 and Rod has six other children from his previous relationships.

He shares daughter Renee and son Liam with his second wife Rachel Hunter and children Kimberly and Sean with first wife Alana.

Rod also has a daughter named Sarah from his relationship with Susannah Boffey in the sixties and shares Ruby with ex Kelly Emberg, who he dated from 1983-1990.
