Sharon Stone asks for prayers for mother Dorothy after she suffers acute stroke

Sharon Stone has asked for prayers for her mum Dorothy, who has suffered an acute stroke.

The Basic Instinct actress shared a sweet photo of her mother, writing: ‘Say a prayer for Dorothy Marie Stone, my mom, who has suffered another acute stroke tonight. Thx 🙏🏻🤍.’

An acute stroke occurs when the blood supply to the brain is disrupted, injuring brain cells and tissues.

Fans and friends shared supportive messages, with Octavia Spencer writing: ‘Oh no!!!!! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽.’

Ava DuVernay added: ‘Holding her in prayer and light. 🙏🏾,’ while Kristin Chenoweth said: ‘Prayers happening now. Getting offline to do so. ❤️.’

Sharon, who has also suffered a stroke herself in the past is passionate about raising awareness about brain-ageing diseases that disproportionally affect women.

She said at a 2019 benefit: ‘This is why I do it: My mother had a stroke. My grandmother had a stroke. I had a massive stroke — and a nine-day brain bleed.’

The actress has been open about the extent of damage done by the stroke, previously revealing that she had to learn to read and write again.

Sharon revealed to Radio Times: ‘In 2001, I had a stroke and a nine-day brain haemorrhage that changed my life forever. I had a five per cent chance of surviving.

‘When I came home after the stroke, I could barely walk. My hip was unstable. I couldn’t see out of my left eye and I couldn’t hear out of my left ear.’

‘I couldn’t write my name for almost three years,’ she said. ‘I couldn’t get my arm to listen to my mind, so I had to learn to read and write again. I had to learn to speak again. It took years for the feeling to come back to my left leg, but it finally came back.’

Sharon said TV helped her through the horrible ordeal, with small parts helping her to learn lines again as she regained her memory.
