Simone’s concerns are extremely valid. BuzzFeed News confirmed that eBay banned the sale of Dahmer-inspired Halloween costumes. According to the outlet, looks inspired by the notorious serial killer violate the retailer’s policy on violence and violent criminals. A spokesperson from eBay confirmed to BuzzFeed News that the site was actively removing listings for products related to or inspired by Dahmer and that they were “prohibited.”

Between 1978 and 1991, Dahmer brutally raped, murdered, and dismembered at least 17 men and young boys, often People of Color. He was also accused of cannibalism and necrophilia. Dahmer was caught by police in 1991 when one of his victims escaped and alerted the police. He was convicted of 15 murder charges and sentenced to 957 years in prison. In 1994, Dahmer was killed by a fellow inmate at the Columbia Correctional Institution.
