What has Baz Luhrmann done to his face? Iconic director, 59, looks nothing like his former self as he displays a taut and shiny complexion at the 2021 AACTA Awards

Baz Luhrmann has been at the centre of cosmetic surgery rumours for years.

And the iconic Australian director, 59, did little to dispel the whispers with his ever-youthful complexion at the AACTA Awards on Wednesday night.

Baz, who is on the promotions trail for his new Elvis biopic, looked unrecognisable compared to his former self, displaying an extremely taut, bronzed and wrinkle-free complexion as he posed on the red carpet.

His visage appeared unnaturally shiny, while his cheekbones seemed noticeably more pronounced than they did during his formative years in the spotlight.

The star’s face only bore a passing resemblance to the Baz who shot to fame in 1992 with the hit film Strictly Ballroom.

Once upon a time, the talented director sported a more rugged appearance with natural wrinkles and skin contours common for men of his age.

This changed over the years, with The Romeo + Juliet director first making headlines for his expressionless new look in 2016.

While his looks may have changed, the high calibre of his work remains the same.

Baz recently wrapped filming his upcoming Elvis biopic, which began shooting in January last year on the Gold Coast.

The film stars Austin Butler playing the late king of Rock and Roll, Tom Hanks as his manager Colonel Tom Parker, and Aussie actors Richard Roxburgh, Dacre Montgomery and Luke Bracey.

Elvis will explore the life and music of the star, as well as his relationship with his manager Colonel Tom Parker over 20 years.

Elvis is set for release on June 24, 2022.
