‘A Million Little Things’: Gary and Darcy relationship timeline

Gary and Darcy met on a laser tag playdate in A Million Little Things Season 2, when Eddie (David Giuntoli) and Catherine (Grace Park) couldn’t take Theo (Tristan Byon). Fans rejoiced when Darcy joined the show because she was Katherine’s friend. Viewers begged to know if Katherine had other friends outside of the group because she seemed like an outsider.

At first, Gary flirted with the attendant at the register; however, he realized he was into Darcy as the playdate progressed. The couple began dating at the very end of A Million Little Things Season 2.

Throughout A Million Little Things Season 3, their relationship grew stronger as they shared past traumatic experiences. Darcy worked through her PTSD with his support. Meanwhile, Gary took care of Delilah Dixon’s (Stephanie Szostak) children while stuck in France. The couple talked about how they enjoyed “playing house” at Delilah’s. Darcy’s son, Liam (Mattia Castrillo), even hit it off with Gary. In season 4, the couple decided to move to Lenox together. They even found a house to purchase.

However, in A Million Little Things Season 4 Episode 4, Darcy confronted Gary about his whereabouts during Peter Benoit’s (Andrew Leeds) assault. She asked him about the final clue to Jeopardy, which he claimed that he watched with his father, Javier Mendez (Paul Rodriguez), that night. However, he had no idea what the answer was, so Darcy knew he lied about his alibi. Gary admitted that he was at Peter’s house. Darcy decided she could not put her son, Liam, through the heartache of watching Gary get arrested. The couple sat down and told Liam they would not be moving in together.

Is Darcy leaving ‘A Million Little Things’?

Darcy Cooper is a series regular on A Million Little Things Season 4. According to TVLine, DJ DJ Nash upped Floriana Lima from recurring in season 2 to regular in season 3. She’s also listed as a series regular for season 4. However, that doesn’t mean she will be around all season. Stephanie Szostak, who portrays Delilah Dixon, could not return to Vancouver for filming season 3 because of the quarantine travel period during the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. Szostak faced the same problem for season 4, so the producers switched her down to a recurring character. In season 3, Szostak only appeared in 7 episodes out of 18 but remained a main character. So, we might not see Darcy every episode, but she could stay a series regular.

DJ Nash commented on Darcy’s possible departure

Viewers who regularly watch A Million Little Things know that Darcy and Liam move to Lenox in season 4. Although Gary isn’t going with the pair, they could remain a part of the show, similar to when Maggie Bloom lived in Oxford. Lima’s Instagram account made fans wonder if Darcy might be leaving A Million Little Things for good. However, a tweet from DJ Nash teased her return.

“My TV child,” Lima wrote in an Instagram caption of her and Mattia Castrillo. “If he were my real life child, I’d be beaming with pride. Such a good kid. SUCH a pro. Loves a great snack. And basically a genius. @mattiacastrillo, everybody!”

Castrillo’s response gave a possible hint about Darcy and Liam leaving A Million Little Things.

“It has been my pleasure to work with you,” Castrillo replied. “You have been a truly amazing TV mom!”

It sounds like Castrillo won’t be returning to his role as Liam. However, showrunner and creator DJ Nash also left a clue on his Twitter account.

“It’s not,” Nash replied to a fan who asked if that was the last we might see of Darcy. “Wait for it.”

According to A Million Little Things showrunner, Darcy isn’t leaving the series for good. Phew! However, we might have to wait awhile to see her again.

A Million Little Things Season 4 airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. EST on ABC and is available for streaming the next day on Hulu.
