A food influencer has divided opinion with her recipe for ‘mashed potatoes’ using Sour Cream & Onion Pringles.

American blogger Alexa, who runs the Facebook page Life with Alexa, took to her social media to share the controversial cooking clip. 

The stomach churning video has been seen by more than 230,000 people and received nearly 2,000 comments.

Many labeled the festive side dish as ‘disgusting’, while others said traditional mashed potato was ‘much better.’

The viral video was captioned: ‘Easiest holiday side dish. I make mashed potatoes using holiday Sour Cream & Onion Pringles.’

Alexa started by emptying four full-sized cans of the crisps into a slow cooker.

She said: ‘Alright! We are starting off with some holiday Sour Cream & Onion Pringles into the crockpot.’

Once all the crisps were in the pot she poured milk over the top saying: ‘Now we’re going to take half a jug of some milk.

‘We’re going to make a super delicious, easy side dish or even full dinner if that’s your vibe.’

Alexa then placed two sticks of butter into the crock pot alongside a bag of grated cheddar cheese.

She added ‘If you’ve never seen this before, you’re about to be blown away because it’s going to look and taste just like mashed potatoes but with all of the flavorings that comes with Pringles.’

The foodie then covered the pot and turned the heat up for it to start boiling for 20 minutes.

She then returned to mash it all together, explaining that she loves the Sour Cream & Onion flavor.

People rushed to the comments in disgust with many suggesting it looked like ‘vomit’

She said: ‘Oh it smells so good, the chips have already started to soften, we just need that butter and cheese to melt, which happens so quick.

‘This is literally the quickest meal you could ever do, that should be good, lets cover it up one more time and give it 30 more minutes. 

After returning to the mixture she added: ‘Now before we’re done mixing, I just have a couple more ingredients to mix in that I think is going to make it real good.

‘We have some chives, you can use fresh as well if you want. And then I have some sour cream, I love the squeeze kind, so easy. 

‘It looks just like mash potato guys and it’s going to taste sooo yummy, this is perfect.’

One person wrote: ‘That’s disgusting. Potatoes are cheaper and much better.’

Another said: ‘I nearly threw up watching this.It looks nothing like mashed potatoes.’

Another wrote: ‘What did I just watch!? heart attack in a pot!! It also looks like someone vomited in there!! if it was that tasty why didn’t she show us a taste test instead of passing in on.’

Someone else wrote: ‘This reaches a new low in cooking demos, this is truly the most disgusting thing I’ve seen. What a waste of perfectly good ingredients that sadly all went to waste. No one would eat this.’
