My best friend has got back in touch after her 15-year marriage broke down

DEAR DEIDRE: MY best friend has got back in touch after her 15-year marriage broke down.

I was excited to hear from her but also felt conflicted because she dumped me when she met her husband, moving away and not bothering to stay in contact.

It wasn’t the first time she’d abandoned me. With each new relationship, she would forget about me.

We’re both 43 and I feel bad because her husband has been cheating on her, but I’m unsure about how to handle her bowling back into my life. I still feel hurt. She can’t drive and wants me to drive to where she lives so we can catch up.

DEIDRE SAYS: Perhaps it is time to let her know you felt a great loss when she stopped investing in your relationship. If you do rekindle your friendship, ensure it works for you.

Keep other friendships going and don’t fall back into the old pattern where she is calling the shots.

The Government is still advising against unnecessary travel, anyway, but when things change why not suggest she gets a train and meet up somewhere halfway.
