But with the official first day of autumn just a few weeks away, it's time to start thinking about your new season’s wardrobe, and which pieces you need to create the perfect transitional outfits.
As we prepare for the seasonal shift, we’re on the lookout for items that are versatile, comfortable, and, of course, flattering. Although we’re firm believers in wearing whatever you love, there’s no denying the frustration of finding something, only to discover it doesn’t sit right on your body shape.
For anyone with an hourglass figure, that struggle often comes in the form of trousers. More often than not, things that fit your hips end up gaping on the waist, or anything that has a more fitted waistband ends up too snug on the hips, making it impossible to find trousers that are both comfortable and flattering.
However, shoppers are convinced they’ve found the perfect trousers for curvier silhouettes thanks to high street favourite New Look.
The Cotton Cuffed Cargo Trousers, £29.99 here, have been lauded as the ultimate fit for hourglass figures by happy customers.
Despite the cotton fabric, which is typically unforgiving on curvier bodies, reviews say the trousers ‘fit them like a glove’ thanks to the waistband, which is elasticated at the back to help pull them in around the waist and ensure they fit you properly.
“These combat trousers fit like a glove and they are so comfortable will definitely be purchasing some more. Really happy with them,” said one five star review, whilst another agreed, writing: “Awesome fit for an hourglass figure, I’ve always struggled with stiffer fabrics like cotton as there’s no stretch. The elastic waistband helps fit snugly on the waist too.”
The trousers come in six different colours including black, khaki and grey making them the ideal wardrobe staple, and are available in sizes 6-22 in each colour.
One issue some reviewers found was that the sizing was slightly inconsistent across the different colours, however one shopper found that although they were slightly snug when they put them on, they did give during the day, making them much more comfortable to wear.
The buyer said: “I bought the green ones of these after reading the reviews. I've gained a fair bit of weight lately, so I was pleased that the size 14 fitted. They were a snug fit, but they loosened as the day went on (as the reviewers said). I haven't yet worn the black ones. These are slightly smaller on the waist, so i'm hoping that these will also give! The green ones have washed up well (but i haven't worn them since washing, so i hope they haven't shrunk!). The style is comfy, and and although it said "denim", not a heavy denim, so they'll do for summer, and Autumn/Winter. Shame the sizing is inconsistent!”
Other reviews praised how versatile the trousers are, saying they’ve worn them with everything from trainers to sandals, and pointing out that the fabric will work through just about any season, making them ideal for the upcoming seasonal change.
If you’re looking for something made specifically for an hourglass shape, the ASOS DESIGN Hourglass Oversized Cargo Trousers, £13.50 here (was £30), have been reduced in the sale, and have been created specifically with curvy figures in mind, although there are currently only sizes 6, 8 and 10 available.
