Priscilla’s book Elvis and Me provides valuable insight into the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. It discusses many aspects of him, including his spiritual beliefs, his musical taste, and his opinions on movies — both his own movies and others. It even gives fans a sense of how Elvis dealt with fear.
“He wasn’t the kind of person who’d come out and say, ‘I’m scared,’” Priscilla recalled. “Instead I’d see it in his actions, his left leg shaking, and his foot tapping. He held in his fears and emotions until at times he would explode, tearing into anyone who happened to be around.”

Priscilla made a comment about his hair that led to an incident at dinner. “At dinner one evening Elvis said that he was concerned about his hairstyle, and I mentioned I’d seen a billboard of Ricky Nelson on Sunset Boulevard,” Priscilla said. “His hair was long with a slight wave, and I thought it was extremely appealing. I innocently suggested that Elvis take a look at it.”
The “Can’t Help Falling in Love” singer did not take kindly to this suggestion. “‘Are you goddamn crazy?’ he shouted,” he said. “After all these years, Ricky Nelson, Fabian [Forte], that whole group have more or less followed in my footsteps, and now I’m supposed to copy them? You’ve gotta be out of your mind, woman.’ He left the dinner table in a rage.”

For a little background, Nelson and Forte were singers who were very popular around the same time as Elvis’ early career. Nelson’s song “Poor Little Fool” made musical history in 1958 when it became the first single to reach the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100. He also found success acting on the sitcom The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet.
Forte had hit songs as well, in addition to a movie career. He also appeared in such films as A Bullet for Pretty Boy, North to Alaska, The Longest Day, Hound-Dog Man, and Five Weeks in a Balloon.
Elvis seemed upset to be included in the same category as Nelson and Forte. It’s up to fans to decide if these singers are on the same artistic level. However, it’s notable that a film about Elvis directed by Baz Luhrmann is on the horizon, however, Hollywood isn’t currently making movies about Nelson and Forte. With that in mind, it seems Elvis has a bit more relevance in modern showbusiness than the other two singers.
