Prince Harry was interrupted by his now-wife Meghan Markle mid-proposal and was so excited she even forgot about the special ring that he had made especially for her.
Speaking to the BBC the royal couple discussed their 2017 engagement and how it didn’t exactly go as the Duke of Sussex, 38, had anticipated.
At the time they had been enjoying a cosy evening together in their Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace.
They were roasting a chicken when Harry dropped to one knee and asked Meghan, 41, to marry him.
When asked about the special moment and she reacted, Meghan told a reporter: "Yes! As a matter of fact, I could barely let you finish proposing. I said, 'Can I say yes now?'"
Harry interjected, explaining: "She didn't even let me finish!"
He revealed that Meghan was so ecstatic that she completely forgot about the sentimental trilogy ring he had designed especially for her.
The prince added: "Then there was hugs and I had the ring, and I said, 'Can I give you the ring?' and she said, 'Oh yes, the ring!'
“It was a really nice moment, it was just the two of us and I think I managed to catch her by surprise."
The couple were married the following year in St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle.
The special ring presented to Meghan was sourced from Botswana, where the couple had previously holidayed, and contained a special diamond, flanked by his late mother Princess Diana's diamonds.
Later in the interview, Meghan described the moment as "so sweet and natural and very romantic."
Harry also explained that he had “frank conversations” with Meghan prior to popping the question.
He warned her about the enormity of entering into the royal family.
She told the reporter that she believed she may have been “naive” to begin with and had no understanding of what it would really be like.
"I think I can very safely say, as naive as it sounds now, having gone through this learning curve in the past year and a half, I did not have any understanding of just what it would be like. I don't think either of us did though,” admitted Meghan.
Harry said: "I tried to warn you as much as possible.
“But I think both of us were totally surprised by the reaction after the first five or six months that we had to ourselves, of what actually happened from then.
“I think you can have as many conversations as you want and try and prepare as much as possible but we were totally unprepared for what happened after that.”
