Antony and Martinez among Man Utd stars arriving on first day of pre-season as forgotten ace set for frosty Ten Hag chat | The Sun

ANTONY and Lisandro Martinez were among the stars spotted starting pre-season with Manchester United today – but one player was set for an awkward and frosty chat with the boss.

The Red Devils finally secured their first summer yesterday when Erik ten Hag sealed the services of Mason Mount.

They confirmed the arrival of England international Mount, 24, on Wednesday as he joined in a £60million move from Chelsea.

But it was a host of familiar names from last season that were among the first to return for the first official day of pre-season training earlier.

Anthony Martial and Jadon Sancho, who looks set to miss out on a romantic return to Borussia Dortmund, were both seen heading into Carrington.

And goalkeeper Tom Heaton, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Raphael Varane and Fred were also in attendance at the training complex on Thursday morning.

Winger Antony and Argentine defender Martinez were present – but so was goalie Dean Henderson.

The 26-year-old spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest after a fall-out with the Red Devils.

Now he is being heavily linked with a permanent move to the City Ground after recovering from the thigh surgery that ruled him out for the last few months of the campaign.

It remains to be seen whether David de Gea, who was made unemployed by United on his wedding day, comes back to the club.

Inter Milan’s Andre Onana has emerged as a top target for Ten Hag, but the United boss is currently enduring a frustrating summer.

He has been limited to a £100m transfer budget due to FFP rules and is willing to listen to offers for 13 players in order to help bolster that balance.

That has led to some suggestions that England international Henderson could stay until the goalkeeping issues have been solved.

However, reports then claimed that the former Sheffield United loanee was “perplexed” by those claims and that “he is convinced he will join Forest permanently”.

The complex keeper situation at United could delay his exit but tTen Hag knows that he could bag a potential £30m from his sale to bolster his transfer chest.

Henderson recently claimed that he “p***ed off the Dutch manager” and believes “he is not in line for a comeback” as he revealed he did not want Ten Hag to see him training as he believed the boss would want to keep him.

He told talkSPORT: “I told all the hierarchy: ‘I need to go and play football. I don't want to be playing second fiddle.’

“And it panned out so I was almost gone before the manager came in.”

Henderson, who kept 13 clean sheets in 29 appearances for United, remains under contract until 2025 but could have been forgiven for feeling a little anxious ahead of his return to Carrington.

Meanwhile, United players that were involved in internationals last month are not due to report for pre-season training until later this month.
