BBC Weather: Ferocious Continental plume to blast ‘snow and ice’ across Europe

BBC Weather forecasts cold temperatures across Europe

BBC meteorologist Nick Miller forecast a continued period of cold temperatures across much of Europe, bringing snow to areas of Greece and Turkey before a warmer front moves in from the west. He added that a band of wet weather will drift across the UK.

Mr Miller said: “While many parts of Europe have been turning drier if not colder, it is the turn of Greece to see some snow.

“That will come from an area of low pressure which is also bringing about snow in Turkey.

“Weather systems are drifting in from the Atlantic towards initially the United Kingdom which will introduce some much cooler air into Western Europe in the coming days.

“There is a lot of dry weather about but it is feeling cold.

“It is feeling very cold where you have the snow into Greece and Turkey.”

He continued: “That cold air will hang on for several days to come, wind-chill will be a factor.

“There will be a few showers towards the east of Spain and a band of wet weather across the United Kingdom introduces much cooler air behind it.

“There is a little bit of wet weather pushing across Germany, Denmark and Norway.

UK weather: Met Office forecasts milder temperatures

“There are some sleet, snow and even some ice in spots as well.”

On Saturday, BBC meteorologist Sarah Keith-Lucas forecast returning the UK to double figures by Monday.

Ms Keith-Lucas said: “We are slowly going to be saying goodbye to the ice and the snow over the next couple of days.

“So gradually, through the weekend, it will be turning milder, particularly on Sunday.

“What you will notice both today and on Sunday is the strength of the wind.

“We have a front moving in from the west this morning, bumping into that cold air and bringing quite heavy, persistent snow this morning for Northern Ireland.”

She added: “But, by Monday, look at those temperatures, we are back into double figures. As we move into the coming week, things are turning milder.”
