Hunter Biden makes shock deal to plead guilty to federal charges in tax and gun case | The Sun

HUNTER Biden has been hit with three federal charges, including tax-related misdemeanor counts and gun possession.

President Joe Biden's son is expected to plead guilty to the two tax charges only, the Justice Department announced on Tuesday.

Hunter is expected to reach a pre-trial plea deal with prosecutors for the firearm charge that would likely keep him out of jail.

Under the deal, which is subject to change depending on whether a federal judge approves it, Hunter must remain drug-free for 24 months and agree never to own a firearm again, according to the New York Times.

Chris Clark, attorney for Hunter, told NBC News in a statement: “With the announcement of two agreements between my client, Hunter Biden, and the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Delaware, it is my understanding that the five-year investigation into Hunter is resolved.

"Hunter will take responsibility for two instances of misdemeanor failure to file tax payments when due pursuant to a plea agreement.

"I know Hunter believes it is important to take responsibility for these mistakes he made during a period of turmoil and addiction in his life. He looks forward to continuing his recovery and moving forward.”

Hunter will likely receive probation for his tax violations, sources told NBC News.

The gun charge states that Hunter owned a Colt Cobra 38 special handgun despite knowing he was a drug user for 11 days in October 2018.

In response to the news, the White House said, "The president and first lady love their son and support him as he continues to rebuild his life. We will have no further comment."

The deal will close a five-year political investigation into President Biden's troubled son's finances, drug use, and international business dealings.

The news also comes as Republican lawmakers ramp up their investigation into the Biden family's alleged foreign business dealings.

Kentucky Congressman James Comer and chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability investigating the Biden family called Hunter's plea agreement a "sweetheart deal."

"Hunter Biden is getting away with a slap on the wrist when growing evidence uncovered by the House Oversight Committee reveals the Bidens engaged in a pattern of corruption, influence peddling, and possibly bribery.

"These charges against Hunter Biden and sweetheart plea deal have no impact on the Oversight Committee's investigation.

"We will not rest until the full extent of President Biden's involvement in the family's schemes are revealed."

Former President Donald Trump, who is also facing federal charges of mishandling classified documents, called the legal system "broken."

"Wow! The corrupt Biden DOJ just cleared up hundreds of years of criminal liability by giving Hunter Biden a mere 'traffic ticket.' Our system is BROKEN!" Trump fumed on his Truth Social platform.

Hunter is expected to appear in federal court in Delaware in the coming days to be arraigned on the misdemeanor tax charges and enter a guilty plea.
