Three people suspected of acting as Russian spies in the UK have been detained and are facing charges as part of a major national security investigation.

The suspects, all Bulgarian citizens, were captured in February and have been detained since.

They are suspected of having ties to Russian security agencies.

They are facing charges for possessing identification documents with “improper intention” as well as knowingly possessing counterfeit documents.

Passports, identity cards, and other forms are included for nations such as the United Kingdom, Bulgaria, France, Italy, Spain, Croatia, Slovenia, Greece, and the Czech Republic.

Counter-terrorism investigators from the Metropolitan Police apprehended the three individuals under the Official Secrets Act, reports the BBC.
