More than 75,050 WhatApp users reported issues using the global instant messaging service from about 4 pm UK time. A total of 43 percent of users are experiencing issues with the app with 27 percent unable to send messages. Facebook, which owns Instagram and WhatsApp, has also seen thousands of reports of problems with 36,298 users reporting issues. 

No site has shared what is causing tonight’s outage or how long the problems will last. 

Users are reporting problems across the country with one joking “the petrol crisis is over now the turn of social media” after some reported the sites to be down for the past hour.

Users say the problems are causing “chaos” as users flock to Twitter to air their annoyance.

#DeleteFacebook is currently trending with more than 15.8k tweets but trending number one is Facebook on Instagram

Facebook ‘aware’ of issues

Facebook said they are “aware some people are having trouble accessing the app.” and confirmed they are working to get things back to normal “as quickly as possible.”

Some users are wondering if the site has been hacked.

Instagram ask users to ‘bear with them’

Instagram Communications have taken to Twitter, one of the only sites to still be running smoothly, to say they are working on the problem. 

The post said the sites are “having a bit of a hard time at the moment”.
