Sophie Turner's life in America vs UK as Joe Jonas files for divorce

Sophie Turner’s life in America vs the UK as Joe Jonas files for divorce: From the Met Gala to downing shots in a Birmingham bar… how Bisto gravy, the countryside and family made actress want to leave Hollywood for good

Joe Jonas officially filed for divorce from wife Sophie Turner after four years of marriage, stating in paperwork their relationship is ‘irretrievably broken’.

The couple had been living apart as the actress, 27, filmed in the UK, while Joe, 34, tours with his brothers in America and looks after their two daughters.

As news of their divorce came to light, pictures emerged of Sophie enjoying a night out in Birmingham where she downed £6.50 cocktails and shots.

The Game Of Thrones actress beamed in the snaps, a year after she spoke of her desire to permanently relocate to the UK.

With Joe filing for divorce and their Miami marital home sold for a cool $15million, we take a look at Sophie’s life in America compared to the UK and the reasons why she may return home for good.

British countryside vs good weather

Family first: The actress, who was born in Northampton and grew up near Leamington Spa, said she was desperate to be back with her family (pictured in 2019)

Homesick: Despite living in a multi-million property in Miami, Sophie missed the English countryside and her loved ones

Sophie seemingly hinted at tensions about where the couple wanted to be permanently based in an interview with Elle last year as she admitted Joe was reluctant to relocate to England.

The actress, who was born in Northampton and grew up near Leamington Spa, said she was desperate to be back with her family and for their children to have a similar education to what she had.

She told the publication: ‘I miss England so much. The people, the attitude, everything. I’m slowly dragging my husband back.

‘I really love living in America but, for my mental health, I have to be around my friends and my family. And also for my daughter – I would love her to get the education and school life that I was so lucky to have.

‘England would ideally be the final destination, but [Joe] might take quite a bit of convincing! My parent’s house is the epitome of the English countryside – horses, sheep, cows..’

Despite missing England, Sophie did appreciate her life in Miami brought good weather and ‘cherished’ living by the waters.

Partying in Birmingham with £6.50 shots vs Met Gala invites

Fun times: Sophie Turner enjoyed a wild night out in England over the weekend amid claims her ‘partying took a toll on her marriage’ to Joe Jonas

Different worlds: The low-key celebration is a far cry from gaining a coveted invite to New York’s Met Gala. Sophie and Joe attended the Met Gala last year

Sophie Turner partied ‘without a care in the world’ just days before her divorce to husband Joe Jonas was announced, a bar manager who spent the night drinking with her has revealed.

The Game of Thrones actress downed £6.50 cocktails and shots at the DropShot bar in Digbeth, Birmingham on Saturday night during a wrap party to mark the end of filming in the city for her upcoming ITV series Joan.

The low-key celebration is a far cry from gaining a coveted invite to New York’s Met Gala.

Sophie and Joe attended the Met Gala last year, an event which is guarded as the world’s most prestigious and glamorous fashion event, with invites sought after.

At the time, the couple were expecting their second daughter with Sophie showcasing her baby bump in a glamorous black gown.

Acting career

Glam: Sophie has spent time in the UK this year filming an ITV drama based on the notorious British jewel thief Joan Hannington

Three’s company: That has meant Joe has been handling solo parenting their two young daughters – even as he tours with his brothers Nick and Kevin Jonas as The Jonas Brothers

Sophie said moving back to England was important for her mental health, which she has suffered with during her rise to fame.

The actress, who made her debut as Sansa Stark in Game Of Thrones, suffered from an eating disorder ‘for a long time’ and had to have a live-in therapist.

She still regularly goes to therapy and said she still has days where she becomes stress and anxious and turns to her family for support.

But Sophie isn’t afraid to move for roles and she relocated to Atlanta in 2021 for Netflix drama The Staircase with her eldest daughter Willa, three.

The actress said she found the move ‘difficult’ as she likes consistency and so moved all her belongings to her Atlanta  while Joe went from ‘city to city’ touring with his brothers.

Million dollar homes

Epic: Atop his choice of ring, the couple’s recent real estate ventures have pointed towards trouble in paradise as they told their incredible Miami mansion for $15million in August

In December last year it was revealed the couple had listed their stunning mansion in Miami’s exclusive Bay Point neighborhood for a whopping $17million before selling the home for $15million in August this year.

The sprawling home featured 10,414-square-footage, six bedrooms, nine bathrooms, numerous living spaces, a chef’s kitchen, formal dining room and game room.

They had made the move from Los Angeles to Miami in September 2021 when they purchased the waterfront property for $11million.

They had previously resided in a mansion in celeb-filled Encino, California. They sold the property  for $15.2million.

Joe and Sophie paid $14.1 million for the residence in the exclusive Royal Oaks neighborhood of Encino.

Described as a contemporary masterpiece, the home offers 15,000-square-feet of living space and is situated on an acre of land.

In addition to the nine bedrooms, there are 11 bathrooms and plenty of luxury touches.

Home comforts: It wasn’t only the countryside and family which made Sophie want to permanently relocate to the UK – she missed Bisto gravy

It wasn’t only the countryside and family which made Sophie want to permanently relocate to the UK.

In her interview with Elle, the Game Of Thrones star admitted she stocks her cupboard with comforts from home that she buys from the British Marketplace.

She said: ‘I buy stuff from the British Marketplace. In the States, the chocolate ain’t good, the crisps ain’t good. It’s not the same. I need my Bisto gravy – all the good s**t!’
