Sinéad O’Connor wanted Demi Moore to star in biopic ‘weeks before death’

Sinéad O’Connor died at the age of 56 last month with her family announcing the news “with great sadness”, with the cause of her death not being made public yet.

She was best known for her single Nothing Compares 2 U, released in 1990, which reached number one and brought her worldwide fame.

In the days leading up to her death, it has been reported that the music sensation was in deep discussions for an upcoming biopic inspired by her life.

According to insiders, she considered Hollywood’s Demi Moore and Saoirse Ronan to play an earlier stage of Sinéad’s life, as well as Niamh Algar.

The film would have been based on her June 2021 autobiography Rememberings.

A source told The Sun: “Sinéad was keen to explore making her memoir into a film and she had a raft of ideas about how it would look on screen.

“She had a huge amount of respect for Demi and thought Niamh was a real rising star after she saw her in her TV series The Virtues.

“Sinéad, too, thought Saoirse was fierce and loved her from her film Brooklyn in 2015 when she played an Irish migrant.”

The singer reportedly liked the idea of a “triptych approach” and envisioned a film that would spotlight three distinct actresses.

According to the publication, Sinead’s management company had been planning an album and tour, as well as the biopic film.

The Nothing Compares 2 U singer was found unresponsive at an address in London, her family confirmed on 26 July.

A cause of death has not yet been announced but police are treating the circumstances as unsuspicious.

Sinéad’s funeral took place last week with the likes of Bono and Bob Geldof attending the private service and plenty of fans filling the streets of Bray, Co Wicklow ahead of the service.

The singer’s family asked people who wish to say a “last goodbye” to stand along Bray seafront in Co Wicklow as the cortege passes by before a private burial.

After O’Connor’s 17-year-old son Shane died by suicide in January 2022, she occasionally shared her grief on social media.

Days before she died, the Irish star published a heartfelt post about her son’s death.

Sinéad explained that she felt she had “been living as an undead night creature” since Shane’s death in the emotional post.
