Smith said she was not in favor of putting the dog down following the incident (an opinion which got her some pushback from followers).
She said, ‘Since then, we have been looking for options and I just couldn’t bring myself to what everyone else says and what you’re supposed to do, apparently – what the world tells you to do is to put the dog down because they are aggressive.’
Smith said she has ‘gone back and forth with that’ and known in her heart that Legend ‘does not deserve that because he is wonderful and could do really great with a family who doesn’t have small children.’
‘I know I don’t want him to go to a kill shelter … and shelters are full.’
The Nashville-based influencer said she hoped that she could find a new home for the dog for owners who don’t have young kids and have ample land for Legend to roam.
She said that the canine hadn’t exhibited aggressive behavior ahead of the incident Sunday.
Smith acknowledged that she would not be able to keep Legend living in the home out of concern Indigo could be traumatized by the dog’s presence in the aftermath of the attack.
The ex-fiancée of the country singer said of the course of events: ‘This will be all over the place and I’ll also start off by saying I never wanted to bring this to social media, but he deserves better.’

‘I figured that I could ask you guys if you knew of anywhere that wasn’t a shelter, because I don’t think he deserves a shelter either because he came from trauma being left on the side of the road for months,’ Smith said.
She went into detail about the rescue dog’s tendencies.
‘He doesn’t walk on hardwood floors and he won’t walk on leash, so he needs a yard,’ Smith said. ‘Other than that he’s not aggressive. He is great with other dogs. He just doesn’t need to be around small kids that will possibly like, mess with his food or crawl on him.’
She said the dog’s around two years old, an ‘angel’ and and ‘a great guard dog.’
Smith said she understood she she needed to find the dog a new home fast with her son returning to the house Tuesday.
‘I’m getting Indigo back home tomorrow and he has to be gone by then and I cannot put him down either because like I said he doesn’t deserve that either,’ she said.
Smith said she wasn’t comfortable to put Legend in a muzzle, or subject her son to potential trauma.

‘I can’t be a good dog mom to him keeping a muzzle on him or a good mom in general having a kid just really scared of him in the home,’ she said.
Smith then showed the dog in the clip relaxing after making a plea for one of her followers to adopt him under the aforementioned circumstances.
‘He is not aggressive towards adults at all,’ she said. ‘You can get in his face and you can do anything and he’s still such a good dog.’
In a subsequent update, Smith said that she was able to find takers for the rescue dog, describing them as ‘the sweetest family’ who own a farm.
‘I couldn’t have asked for a better family for him to be loved on by, and they’re East Tennesseans, so we can visit any time we need to,’ she concluded.
Smith also shared a DM response she received from one follower who asked her if she cared more about her dog than the child.
She said it was an ignorant assertion, as ‘to be a mom is to care about your child first and find the dog a home away from your kid before they come back into the home.’
She added, ‘To be a dog mom is to find the best possible home for the dog knowing that they can thrive in an environment that is meant for them without children.’
